🌈Rainbow Bachelorette Party: Shopping Guide🌈

Rainbow Bachelorette Party Excerpt Come along as I share how I planned a colorful rainbow bachelorette party filled with DIY projects, personalized favors, rainbow drinks, creative activities, and plenty of fun. From choosing the decorations and matching favors to realizing that not all rainbow styles work perfectly together, I’m sharing what I loved, what I…

Planning a rainbow bachelorette party?

Whether you want something bright and classic, muted and boho, polished and elevated, bold and neon, or soft and pastel there are so many different directions you can take a rainbow theme.

I put together this shopping guide based on my own rainbow bachelorette party, along with some alternative ideas for creating different rainbow aesthetics. You don’t have to buy everything on this list. Think of it as a starting point to help you decide what fits your party, your budget, and your personal style.

🌈 Rainbow Decorations

Choosing Your Rainbow Aesthetic

Before you start shopping, I highly recommend deciding what kind of rainbow aesthetic you actually want.

For our party, Boho Rainbow was ultimately the aesthetic we were going for, but we didn’t start out with a super clear vision of exactly what our rainbow should look like. As I started collecting decorations, I realized that we had accidentally ended up with elements from several different rainbow aesthetics.

And honestly, that’s an easy thing to do!

When you’re shopping for a rainbow party, it can be tempting to look at each item individually and think, That’s cute. That’s rainbow. That will work.

But when you put everything together, you may end up with a mixture of bright traditional rainbow pieces, muted boho colors, metallic or elevated details, and even neon elements.

With a simple color palette, it’s much easier to tell whether individual pieces coordinate. With a rainbow palette, you’re already working with so many colors at once, so differences in color tone, saturation, finish, materials, and overall style can become much more noticeable.

If you want your decorations to look cohesive, don’t just look at whether each individual piece works. Look at how all of the pieces work together as a whole.

Before shopping, I recommend choosing the overall rainbow aesthetic you want and using a Pinterest board as your visual reference. That way, you can compare the individual decorations to the bigger picture before adding them to your cart.

Creating My Own Rainbow Bachelorette Party Paper Goods

When I started planning the rainbow bachelorette party, one of the first things I looked for was a matching set of invitations, signs, and other paper goods on Etsy. Etsy is usually my go-to when I’m looking for templates like these, but I just couldn’t find a template package that had the look I wanted.

Instead of settling for something that didn’t quite fit the vision, I decided to make my own in Canva. This ended up giving me a lot more freedom to customize the colors, rainbow style, and little details to match the rest of the party. It also meant I could create everything I needed without having to compromise on the overall look I was going for.

Here are five different rainbow aesthetics to consider:

🌈 Classic Rainbow

A classic rainbow aesthetic is bright, cheerful, playful, and colorful. Think primary rainbow colors and the kind of decorations that immediately make you think of a rainbow party. Lots of white accents especially make this look pop.

🌿 Boho Rainbow

A boho rainbow is softer, warmer, and more relaxed. Instead of relying on extremely bright rainbow colors, you can look for muted or earthy shades and incorporate natural or neutral elements.

This is the rainbow aesthetic we were ultimately aiming for with our party.

✨ Elevated Rainbow

An elevated rainbow aesthetic is colorful without feeling quite as playful or traditional. This is a good direction if you want your rainbow party to feel a little more polished or sophisticated.

🩷🧡💛💚Neon Rainbow

A neon rainbow is the boldest of the five vibes. Think bright, highly saturated colors and a party atmosphere that feels energetic and a little more like a nightlife experience.

🦄Pastel Rainbow🦄

If you’re going for a softer, more whimsical rainbow party, a pastel rainbow is a great option. This palette keeps all the fun of a rainbow theme while giving the party a lighter, more cohesive look. This theme also looks great with neutral accents.

Pastel rainbow is one of the easiest rainbow palettes to make look cohesive because the colors naturally have the same soft, muted quality. Just be sure to look closely at the actual colors in each item before purchasing. “Rainbow” can mean very different things from one product to another, and mixing pastel rainbows with bright, boho, or primary-color rainbows can make the overall look feel less intentional.

And remember: you don’t have to buy everything.

There Are More Than Five Rainbow Aesthetics

One thing I want to clarify is that when I say there are five different rainbow party aesthetics, I definitely don’t mean that those are the only five. I could be missing a major aesthetic, or even completely overlooking someone’s favorite way to style a rainbow party—and that’s part of what makes rainbow such a fun theme.

Rainbow is incredibly versatile. There are so many different ways you can interpret it, and all of them can be beautiful.

My point in breaking the aesthetics down isn’t to create a definitive list of every possible rainbow style. It’s to emphasize something I wish I had thought about sooner: choose your base aesthetic before you start buying everything.

Whether you ultimately go with a boho rainbow, pastel rainbow, bright and colorful rainbow, retro rainbow, or something completely different, having that foundation in mind will make it much easier to choose pieces that actually work together.

Because the goal isn’t to pick the “right” rainbow aesthetic. All rainbow aesthetics are beautiful. The goal is simply to know what your version of a rainbow party looks like before you start filling your shopping cart.

🥂 Drink & Shot Supplies

One of the colorful details I used for our party was a set of rainbow heart-shaped shot glasses. Since we were already leaning into a full rainbow look with the table decor, the shot glasses fit right in and added another fun pop of color to the drinks. They were such a cute little detail and one of those pieces that helped carry the rainbow theme all the way through the party. I had about 24 shot glasses total so we supplemented the rest with these shot containers that came with lids and were honestly super convenient. For the Jell-O itself we chose one flavor per color. For example red was cherry, orange was orange, yellow was Lemon, green was lime, blue was blue berry blue , and then purple was grape.

The Shot Glasses I Still Loved

One of the biggest examples of the different rainbow aesthetics clashing in my party was the shot glasses. I absolutely loved the shot glasses I chose, and I’m still really glad that I kept them. The problem wasn’t the shot glasses themselves—it was that their rainbow style didn’t really coordinate with the more boho rainbow aesthetic I had going on with the rest of the decor.

Looking back, I wish I had recognized that before I started buying everything. Instead of choosing a boho rainbow for the decor and then adding in a completely different style of rainbow with the shot glasses, I think I would have been happier choosing a more classic rainbow aesthetic that complemented the shot glasses from the beginning.

Then, rather than trying to make the shot glasses fit into a boho rainbow party, I could have found ways to bring more of the bride’s personal style into that classic rainbow aesthetic. That would have allowed the party to feel cohesive while still feeling like her.

And honestly, I don’t regret the shot glasses. I still loved them, and I still think they were a fun part of the party. If I could go back, I wouldn’t necessarily get rid of them—I would just build the rest of the party around them a little differently.

The serving tray is especially useful if you’re putting out a whole collection of colorful shots at once. It keeps everything together and makes the setup feel intentional rather than like a bunch of individual glasses sitting around the room.

🎨 Craft Activity Supplies

One of our activities was decorating canvas tote bags. I wanted everyone to have something they could actually use after the party, and painting the bags gave everyone an opportunity to make something of their own. I also loved how it fit in with the colorful theme of the party that we were already rolling with.

I brought a variety of paints and tools so everyone could decorate their tote however they wanted.

If you’re trying to create a more coordinated look, you could choose one style of tote for everyone. If you want the activity to feel more eclectic and playful, mixing plain and colorful handles can be fun too.

💅 Sleepover Supplies

Since we hosted the bachelorette party at home and turned it into a sleepover, I wanted to include some things that made the evening feel more like a girls’ night in.

You can go as simple or as over-the-top as you want here. A few inexpensive beauty products can turn a regular sleepover into a little spa night.

Pampering

The games don’t have to take over the entire evening. For our party, they were just another activity mixed in with drinks, crafts, music, and hanging out together. We played a handful of these games, picking and choosing which ones were right for us, but I really loved the concept of all of them, so I wanted to include them here.

Personalized Sleepover Details

Personalized pillowcases and custom slippers can also double as keepsakes from the weekend or evening, especially if everyone is staying overnight. It all depends on what you have planned.

🎁 Favors

For the favors, I ended up making every bag exactly the same, but color-coordinated them to each person’s pajamas. Each guest was assigned a color, and their favor bag matched. The bride was assigned orange, so she got an orange bag, while the guest who wore blue got a blue bag. I may or may not have assigned myself pink, which worked out perfectly for me! The maid of honor’s favorite color is pink, but her second favorite is yellow, so she went with yellow and got a yellow bag.

Everything inside each bag was exactly the same—the only difference was the color. It was such a simple way to make the favors feel personalized without having to create completely different favors for everyone.

You can choose items based on your budget, the bride’s personality, and whether you want the favors to be more beauty-focused, practical, colorful, or just plain silly.

Rainbow Favor Ideas

You definitely don’t need all of these. Picking just a few small items that work well together can make a really cute favor without spending a fortune.

📸 Photo & Memory Making

One of my favorite things I did for the party was take photos with my Instax camera throughout the night.

I actually ended up taking more photos with my Instax than I did with my phone or my regular camera. At the time, I didn’t realize that would mean I wouldn’t have nearly as many digital pictures of the evening to use later.

That’s definitely something to consider if you’re documenting your party for yourself—or if you’re planning to use the photos for a blog like I am. Unfortunately I didn’t decide to do my blog until over a year after the bachelorette party had already happened.

But there’s also a really special upside.

I purchased a small photo album specifically for the mini Polaroid-style photos and filled it with pictures from the night. I then gave the album to the bride as a gift.

So while I don’t have as many photos of the party for myself, the bride has a physical collection of memories from her bachelorette party that she can keep forever.

Shop Photo & Memory-Making Supplies

If you’re hosting a bachelorette party, I think this is a really meaningful way to make the photos part of the gift rather than just something that lives on everyone’s phones.

🌈 A Few Final Shopping Tips

The biggest thing I learned from putting together a rainbow party is that “rainbow” isn’t really one aesthetic.

You can have a classic rainbow, a boho rainbow, an elevated rainbow, a neon rainbow or a pastel rainbow—and you can very easily end up with all five or something all together different if you aren’t paying attention while you’re shopping.

So before you start filling your cart, choose the overall look you’re going for. Save a few inspiration photos, compare your decorations side by side, and think about how the colors, finishes, and materials will look together.

Pick the pieces that will have the biggest impact, then fill in the rest with things you already own, DIY projects, food, activities, and personal touches.

That’s ultimately what made our rainbow bachelorette party feel like our party rather than a collection of decorations.
